Where has this week gone? There is only one day left of ANC 2015, and we have to be honest—we’re just not ready to leave Salt Lake City! Our Utah hosts have been so kind, helpful, and generous with their time, and we must say a great, big THANK YOU to the state organization that has helped make our time here so wonderful.
We are having a great time at the SNF booth, where we are sharing as much information with as many people as we can–about Partners for Breakfast in the Classroom, and about donating to the Annual Fund that helps us provide essential scholarships, resources, and professional training for our membership. The Annual Fund fundraising competition is on, and it looks like our state organizations are going to head into battle with their eyes on the prize. Have you donated to the Annual Fund yet? Stop by the SNF booth to make your donation before the end of the conference, or donate online when you get home.
We had two incredible back-to-back Partners for Breakfast in the Classroom education sessions on Monday. It was wonderful to hear feedback from school nutrition professionals on what challenges they have faced and conquered to bring breakfast-in-the-classroom to their schools and districts. We discussed strategies and best practices for building a successful, sustainable BIC program, and we reminded participants that there are some terrific, free resources available online, including:
- Partners for Breakfast in the Classroom
- NEA Healthy Futures & NEA Healthy Futures Breakfast in the Classroom Toolkit
- School Nutrition Foundation
- Breakfast in the Classroom: Toolkit for Arizona Schools
- SNA Webinar Wednesdays (upcoming BIC webinars on 9/9, 10/14, and 11/18)
- NEA Breakfast in the Classroom Video
- National Association of Elementary School Principals
The Partners for BIC also have a Self-Assessment Guide and a Self-Assessment Form available to you, for free, to help you get started on assessing whether BIC is right for you. The Guide helps you fill out the form, and if you’d like a copy of these simply email our PBIC Consultant Liz Campbell firstname.lastname@example.org, or our social media coordinator Christina Uticone at email@example.com.
