Show of hands – who is starting the new school year with breakfast-in-the-classroom? Whether you’re launching a pilot program, or you’re adding schools to your thriving BIC program, we wanted to share some of the latest news and resources we love to help you plan, implement, and manage your breakfast after the bell program.
As always we hope your first stop will be the Partners for Breakfast in the Classroom website, where you can find videos, fact sheets, and more to help you communicate all the great benefits of your breakfast in the classroom, Grab n’ Go, or Second Chance breakfast after the bell program. Stay tuned—we’re planning some exciting new updates for the website this fall!
Next up, we recommend School Nutrition Association’s About School Meals page. Collect stats and success stories to share with stakeholders about the benefits of school breakfast and lunch, as well as information to help you talk about school nutrition standards.
Make sure you check out our BIC partners at Food Research & Action Center for additional breakfast in the classroom and breakfast after the bell resources. Check out some of the following FRAC resources to help you convince stakeholders and promote the benefits of BIC/breakfast after the bell:
- FRAC’s School Breakfast Program resource page
- 2017-2018 School Breakfast Scorecard
- 2017-2018 Large District Report
If you would love to implement breakfast after the bell but you’re worried about resistance from instructional staff, we have a resource for that! Download the NEA Foundation School Breakfast Toolkit to help you communicate the benefits of breakfast in the classroom with educators. This toolkit will help you anticipate their questions and concerns, as well as employ strategies to invite them into the planning and implementation process.
Finally, stop by the School Nutrition Foundation BIC Resource Center to access videos, stakeholder testimonials, our webinar archive, and more breakfast in the classroom and breakfast after the bell resources. Don’t miss the links to archived SN Magazine articles, too!
