New School Breakfast Webinars from Partners for Breakfast in the Classroom, SNA, and FRAC

With National School Lunch Week in the rearview mirror, we’re turning our attention back to all things breakfast-in-the-classroom! We have opened up the application period for Cycle 4 of the Partners for Breakfast in the Classroom grant, and many of you have already reached out to us about implementing BIC in your school or district. If you live in Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Idaho, or Texas, visit the PBIC website to learn more:

If you are interested in applying, please make sure you sign up for our upcoming Talk Tuesday webinar on Tuesday, November 1, 2016: Cycle 4 Breakfast in the Classroom Funding Available! You’ll hear from the School Nutrition Foundation about funding available in the ten states listed above for BIC programs. During this webinar we’ll discuss the resources available to applicants throughout the application and implementation process. Speakers from our partners at FRAC and The NEA Foundation will be on the call, as well as stakeholders from previously-funded districts who will share their experiences with both the grant process, and breakfast-in-the-classroom. You’ll also hear from our PBIC RD consultant, Liz Campbell, and Sarah Murphy from SNF. Register now for this one-hour webinar.

Additional Webinars for SN Professionals

There are several other promising webinars on the schedule this fall at FRAC, SNA, and the Institute of Child Nutrition (ICN). If you’re looking for information on school lunch, summer or afterschool feeding, or school wellness policies, check out the following:

  • Reducing Food Waste & Serving Kid-Friendly Meals: FRAC is presenting this webinar as part of their “Summer Meals Matter” series, and it dovetails nicely with SNF’s ongoing partnership with the Environmental Research & Education Foundation (EREF) on the School Nutrition Cafeteria Discards Assessment Project (SCrAP). Food waste is often an issue on the minds of school nutrition directors considering breakfast-in-the-classroom, but this webinar is perfect for anyone interested in reducing food waste in child nutrition programs. Thursday, November 3 at 1 p.m. ET; register here.
  • Food Policy Councils and the Summer Nutrition Program: Food Policy Councils have an understanding of food insecurity and the local nutrition landscape, making them a great group to engage in summer meals advocacy and outreach. This call will dive into the role that Food Policy Councils can play in expanding participation in the Summer Nutrition Programs. Tuesday, November 8 at 1 p.m. ET; register here.
  • Cities Operating & Expanding the Afterschool Meal Program: Learn how cities have championed and expanded the Afterschool Meal Program through strong partnerships and planning on this call. Thursday, November 17 at 1 p.m. ET; register here.
  • New CACFP Meal Standards and the Afterschool Meal Program: Join this call to understand and plan for the new meal plan for CACFP recently issued by USDA. The new meal plan must be in place by October 1, 2017, but there is no time like the present to start making healthy changes. Thursday, December 15 at 1 p.m. ET; register here.
  • Team Up Thursday—Team Up with Local School Wellness Policies: Presented by the Institute of Child Nutrition (ICN), this will be their last webinar of 2016, and will focus on the Team Nutrition School Wellness Policy Outreach Toolkit.
